Do you know Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? — I'm showing my age here! Nick's strange baritone singing voice is definitely an acquired taste and I stayed away until I saw him as one of a bunch of big names singing Leonard Cohen songs at a Sydney tribute show. And then I came across the Red Hand Files. When they show up in my feed I stop scrolling and read, and his latest post made me think of photographers, and what you do. What we do too. Nick invites his fans to ask him questions, and every week or so he picks one to answer. He takes this very seriously. This week someone To View More >>

Those people in your viewfinder are paying your bills. All of your bills. And the images you take are more or less worthless to anyone else. What are your customers after? Why do they want their photographs taken? Actually, do they want their photographs taken? In social photography the trick is to understand that it’s not about the print, or the album, or the photography, or Photoshop, or what your peers think To View More >>

The winners of the inaugural International Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards have been announced, and the event has been a real success. Queensberry was proud to be principal sponsor of the album design category, which was won by Francesco Gravina (Italy) with a truly spectacular submission. In my short life I've listened to music played on 7″ and 12″ vinyl records, reel-to-reel tapes, 4-track tapes, 8-track tapes, compact cassettes, CDs, digital audio tapes, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, streaming-music services, and many digital audio formats. With each media came a new player, destined to become outdated and therefore inaccessible. There are lessons in that for photographers… A personal story about media loss, and the pain it causes Earlier this year my wife and I emptied the house where she grew up. We found her childhood box of nearly perfect 45 rpm To View More >>

After coming across Paul and Puyan’s wedding, we knew we had to chat with the photographer behind their beautiful photographs. Documenting love stories both in France and abroad, Jérémy Boyer has only been in the wedding industry for around four years, and says he's been taking it seriously for the past two! But with his clear vision and creative outlook he's already well recognised for his work. We discussed all things weddings, from mixed cultures and traditions, to the clients you attract, and of course Puyan's one-of-a-kind dress, made by herself. To View More >>

Jessica Reeves claims to have been "very average" at school — "never did badly, never did amazingly well". But after two years as a photographer she's come to believe that this is something she can be great at and love at the same time. Ideal foundations on which to build a career! The biggest lesson she's learned is very simple: make friends. "Running your own business can be pretty lonely, especially at the beginning when you feel you are running along with a blindfold on. Making friends with other photographers, or others in the industry, takes a huge To View More >>

It’s so refreshing to meet people who act as if the only thing coming between them and their dreams is a plan. Dmitry and Victoria Fedotov built a photography business serving some of the world’s wealthiest people by being clear about their goals and plans, by going the extra mile for their clients … and by shutting out the voices inside that say it can’t be done. Read on for the short story, or click here to listen to my conversation with Dimitry. Download Dmitry’s free Wedding Photography Guide. Sometimes you get lucky! Andy and Wendy left this remarkable story on our Facebook page. We live in the UK. Last December our house was flooded by a tidal surge and EVERYTHING on the ground floor was ruined. We had so little notice that all we had time to save was one of our cars, our dog and a handful of personal papers. We were devastated when we realised our wedding album, created by Queensberry in 2002, was among the items lost. It was our pride and joy, and we despaired of ever replacing it. The original photographer had finished doing wedding photography, we didn't have his To View More >>
